Regular dental check ups are vital to keep your teeth and gums healthy. If you wait until you have a problem with your teeth, the damage is already done. At Whiteline Medical Center, a routine dental check-up will generally include an oral exam of your teeth, gums, mouth and jaws to check their health and diagnose any potential problem areas. Your dentist will then brief you about the problematic areas and the treatments you may need. They also keep an eye on other dental treatments you have had in the past such as dental fillings, bridges, implants etc.

Unfortunately, tooth pain can be very disruptive to other daily routines such as mealtimes, as eating or drinking can worsen the pain, especially with hot or cold sensations, and can intensify at night disrupting sleep. At Whiteline Medical Center, after a full examination of your mouth and immediate surrounding areas, your dentist will ask you a series of questions, take X-rays to identify the scope of the problem, and then form a treatment plan. If the tooth has a deep cavity, the decayed material is removed from the tooth and the infection cleared, which relieves the pain.

Your teeth come under constant attack from the starches and sugars present in our food which are released as you eat leading to formation of plaque. If it is not removed then it will harden and form calculus or ‘tartar’ – a yellow or brown mineral deposit which causes the teeth to have a rough or ‘crusty’ appearance. This makes them vulnerable to further plaque attacks. Plaque can corrode the teeth over time which causes cavities and tooth decay as well as bad breath. If it leads to tartar formation, especially around the gums then gingivitis can occur. The danger with this is that it can lead to the more serious periodontal gum disease and sometimes leads to losing of tooth or several teeth. A scale and polish can remove plaque and leave your teeth feeling nice and smooth and your breath feeling fresh.

Teeth whitening is a popular and affordable choice to brighten your smile. Prior to undergoing whitening treatment your dentist will examine your teeth and gums and advise you if they are healthy enough to go through a whitening process. whiteline offers several teeth whitening options. Results can vary but generally the improvement is great enough for you to see a change within a short time.

During teeth whitening your dentist will first apply a protective gel to the lips and gums, followed by the application of the whitening gel to the teeth. The gel (which contains Hydrogen Peroxide) is then activated by a special LED light, and the resulting photochemical reaction gently penetrates the tooth to lift deep stains and discolourations. This process varies in length, depending on the depth of the stain and the goal level of whiteness. It can be a little uncomfortable having the mouth open for such a long time, but many patients find listening to music or watching a movie helps to distract them, and the upside is that there is usually only one treatment required (deep staining may require additional treatment).

A root canal is a treatment used to repair and save a tooth that is badly decayed or becomes infected. During a root canal procedure, the nerve and pulp are removed and the inside of the tooth is cleaned and sealed. Without treatment, the tissue surrounding the tooth will become infected and abscesses may form. The purpose of Root canal treatment is to remove the bacteria that have penetrated through the nerve of the tooth and debride any and all infected tissue to create a healthy and sterile environment which is then filled with sterile material called gutta purcha.

After root canal treatment, a full coverage crown is necessary to prevent future fracture of the tooth by providing adequate protection. Extracting the tooth may initially seem to the least expensive treatment, but if a root canal is an option, it may end up being less expensive than extracting and replacing that same tooth with a partial denture, bridge or a dental implant which is much more costly. Nonetheless, all of your treatment options will be discussed prior to starting any treatment.

Dental veneers are thin, tooth-colored shells that are attached to the front surface of teeth to improve their appearance. They’re often made from porcelain or resin-composite materials and are permanently bonded to your teeth.
Veneers can be used to treat a number of different cosmetic concerns, including chipped, broken, discolored, or smaller-than-average teeth.
Some people may only get one veneer in the case of a broken or chipped tooth, but many get between six to eight veneers in order to create an even, symmetrical smile. The top front eight teeth are the most commonly applied veneers.

What are the benefits of porcelain veneers?

    • Change the size, shape and color of your teeth permanently
    • Creates a very natural appearance
    • Conservative preparation of tooth as compared to crowns
    • Stain resistant
    • Instant smile transformation in just 2 appointments

When should you consider porcelain veneers?

    • If your teeth are discolored
    • You require permanent whiteness of your teeth
    • Your teeth are small and uneven in size
    • You have spacing between your teeth
    • When you have mild crowding, and do not consider orthodontic treatment

Dental fillings are a common way to treat cavities, which are areas of decaying teeth that become small holes. A composite filling is tooth colored, mercury free, metal free and bonds to the tooth and strengthen the tooth by restoring its original shape. Restorations with composite material require less removal of tooth structure than those with amalgams (silver fillings) as the material is hardened by chemically activating by laser light photons. Therefore a tooth-coloured filling restores teeth back to their natural health and beautiful appearance. This procedure is carried out by the dentist during a single visit with a totally painless technique.

Missing multiple teeth due to gross decay, fractures, periodontal (gum) disease can really affect a person’s appearance, self-confidence and eating abilities. Your Pingree Grove dentist can bring back the smile on your face with partial dentures or full dentures to replace your missing teeth

A dental crown or “cap” is a covering that fits over a damaged, decayed or unattractive tooth. Crowns strengthen damaged teeth, allowing them to function normally again. When crafted from today’s high-tech porcelains (dental ceramics), crowns are virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth. They can even be designed to improve upon a tooth’s original appearance. Bridges are multiple unit crowns which replace missing teeth and are fixed to the adjacent teeth. There are different materials used for dental crowns and bridges , depending on what qualities are most important like porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns (PFM), which have a metal interior for strength and a porcelain exterior for a more natural appearance, and all-porcelain crowns with zirconia, representing the strongest ceramic.

Excessive tooth decay, tooth infection, and crowding can all require a tooth extraction. Those who get braces may need one or two teeth removed to provide room for their other teeth as they shift into place. Additionally, those who are undergoing chemotherapy or are about to have an organ transplant may need compromised teeth removed in order to keep their mouth healthy. Your dentist will make sure that your medical conditions are stable or treated before you undergo the tooth extraction. You might be prescribed antibiotics in the days leading up to the procedure if:

    • your surgery is expected to be long
    • you have an infection or a weakened immune system
    • you have a specific medical condition

Orthodontic treatment is a way of straightening or moving teeth, to improve the appearance of the teeth and how they work. It can also help to look after the long-term health of your teeth, gums and jaw joints, by spreading the biting pressure over all your teeth. The length of orthodontic treatment depends on how severe the problem is, and it may take anything from a few months to two years. All appliances may feel strange at first, and can cause discomfort. If the problem doesn’t go away, your dentist may be able to carry out adjustments to help. Teeth are usually uncomfortable immediately after a brace has been adjusted, but this will settle. Orthodontic braces usually need adjusting every 4 to 6 weeks. Your orthodontist will tell you how often your brace will need adjusting.

Your child’s oral health begins at an early age, and we understand that a visit to the dentist may seem unnecessary. Our whiteline Medical Center dentist will simply check to see that your baby’s teeth are growing and developing the way they should. From then on, plan on regular visits every six months or so, if your dentist recommends it. Everyone wants to have a radiant smile and at Toothsmiths Dental Centre and Clover Medical Centre, we believe that everyone should have a radiant smile. A dazzling smile does wonders to your confidence and persona. Using current trends in modern cosmetic dentistry, your dentist can perform a variety of procedures to improve your smile. There are many techniques and options to treat teeth that are fractured, discolored, malformed, crowded or missing. Cosmetic Dentistry involves the use of various adjunctive procedures like whitening, veneers, lumineers, bonding and crown lengthening.
In order to improve upon the cosmetics of your smile, we can employ the use of the following modalities:

    1. Smile Makeovers

We often come across patients who want to have a perfect smile or a smile like one of their favorite celebrities. Here, we analyze your smile by taking photographs and making study models. We design a smile using wax on your study models and can temporarily transfer that look onto your teeth. You can get to have a look and get a feel of what the end result would approximately look like before you actually commit to the treatment. Smile makeovers will involve a multispecialty approach by one or more of our specialists to give you that perfect smile. In order to achieve the perfect look, we will have to employ the use of veneers/lumineers, crowns, bridges and gum procedures.

    2. Whitening

Stained, discolored & yellow teeth do present with a social stigma. We have grown up to the term “pearly whites” which denotes fabulously whiter teeth which increase the glow of your face. Whitening of the teeth has gained in strides over the last two decades. This involves the process known as bleaching of the teeth with the use of chemical agents that whiten your teeth. From a simple home whitening regimen to a single in-office procedure, you can be assured that you will have movie star smile at a very affordable price. Home Whitening involves the use of a custom made tray that can be used in the convenience and privacy of your home for a period of 2 – 4 weeks to provide the desired shade. At Whiteline Medical Centre and Clover Medical Centre, we employ the use of light-activated whitening using plasma arcs & LASER. We follow up on the maintenance of the derived result by providing you with a home whitening kit too! In under an hour you can have that ravishing smile that you often see in magazines.

    3. Veneers
    4. Lumineers

These are extremely thin cerinate shells which can be bonded onto unprepared teeth. In a nutshell, the original tooth is not touched in any way that can be deemed detrimental. Lumineers can provide a whiter and more radiant smile in a painless procedure. A Lumineer consultation involves the taking of dental impressions to create molds on which a temporary set-up is created. Once the patient has approved the set-up, a try-in with the actual finished product is scheduled following which the lumineers are bonded onto the teeth. We provide with a 5 year company warranty on Lumineers.

    5. Crown Lengthening

Sometimes, cosmetic dental procedures are incomplete without adjunctive procedures involving the reshaping of the surrounding gums and de-pigmentation procedures. Crown Lengthening involves resection & correction of the gums at the necks of the clinical crowns. This is mostly done in cases where the marginal gums are enlarged or poorly contoured. A minor surgical in-office procedure is performed wherein the collar cuff of this marginal gum is reshaped using lasers to provide for faster healing and excellent results.

    6. Dental Jewelry

Recently, a new fad has developed with the addition of dental jewelry onto the facial surfaces of the anterior teeth. Given the fact that these little inserts are inert and safe, there has been a high demand from patients calling up the dental office and inquiring about these products. Dental Jewelry come in the form of various shaped zircon stones having a bondable surface and also metal shapes with colored stones that can be easily applied onto the enamel. These can be removed at any time without leaving residual marks on the enamel surfaces.

The gums surrounding the teeth provide for an overall look in the smile. A healthy gum is an asset and health of the gingival tissue is an integral component of comprehensive dental care. Incorrect brushing methods and lack of adequate oral hygiene can lead to inflamed and reddened gums. This will affect the esthetics of the smile; can cause pain and halitosis (bad breath). Gum Treatment comprises of regular oral prophylaxis which involves periodic cleaning and deep scaling to cleanse the teeth of accumulated plaque, tartar & stains. Following a regular prophylaxis, it has been shown that the patient finds it easier to maintain the health of the gums by regular home-based oral care which involves correct brushing methods, use of appropriate tooth pastes, periodic use of prescribed mouth rinses and flossing.

In instances, there can be pathologies involving the gums which includes but is not limited to:

    1. Sporadic enlargements of the marginal gingival
    2. Periodontal weakening of the teeth due to bone loss
    3. Periodontal abscess formation
    4. Periodontal Pocket Formation
    5. Gingival Recession
    6. Trauma from Occlusion

In the above instances, gum treatment will have to be considered. Gum Treatment can involve the:

    1. Minor surgical procedures using soft-diode lasers to recontour the marginal gingival
    2. Flap Surgeries in case of bone loss, gingival recession & periodontal pockets with placement of artificial bone augmentation materials.
    3. Incision & Drainage of abscesses.

Whiteline Medical Centre uses the latest technology in soft-diode LASER to achieve therapeutic results with rapid healing and minimal discomfort to the patient.

Currently, the use of implants for the replacement of missing teeth has generated a lot of interest in the dental provider’s world. As opposed to the replacement of missing teeth by the use of a fixed bridge which involved the grinding of the adjacent healthy teeth, the use of implants provides for a simple and non-destructive modality for tooth replacement. An implant is a titanium screw which when inserted into the jaw bone will mimic the root of the tooth. Upon acceptance of this titanium insert by the body, an anatomic crown can be placed on the implant at a future date.
